CONNECTED ACADEMY

Connected Academy, Fulton’s first system charter school, opens August 13, 2007, for juniors and seniors living in the Fulton County School District attendance zone. Connected Academy will be located in the Milton Center and will offer the College Preparatory Program of Study for the Graduating Class of 2008 and beyond. Connected Academy is designed to reach out to those students who are bright but not reaching their potential in their present high school.  While there will be extensive use of technology, including virtual classes; project-based assignments that take place both on and off school campus; and non-traditional instructional methods, emphasis on learning is Connected Academy’s number one priority. The College Preparatory Diploma will be offered in an environment that stresses flexibility and individuality.

The school already is generating a lot of interest and support from the community. Dell Computers, Plato Learning and Promethean have donated equipment and support for innovative technology programs.  An Education Strategist from Dell is working with the school to establish state-of-the-art technology integration with instruction. Georgia Power has provided a grant to assist with start-up resources.  The North Fulton Chamber of Commerce has committed to working with the school to establish business partnerships for teaching and internships, and the Georgia Department of Education has awarded a $400,000 planning grant.  Calls and applications from interested parents and students are coming in daily.
